Willow & Maple

Washington, DC

A Walkable Community

Willow & Maple transforms a site within Takoma Park’s historic district into a thoughtfully scaled, walkable community just a quarter-mile from the metro. The project unites two multifamily buildings with three reconstructed single-family homes, balancing density with human-scale design that respects and enhances the surrounding neighborhood.

The multifamily buildings are designed as traditionally detailed three-story wood structures, their rich material palette adding texture, depth, and visual interest. Residents enjoy a full suite of amenities, including a community room, fitness center, bike storage, and an expansive rooftop with lounge seating, fire pit, and grilling areas—spaces that foster connection and elevate daily life.

The three single-family homes anchor the site’s character: two were relocated on-site, and one fully reconstructed. Each bungalow features a unique palette and materiality, ensuring a harmonious transition to the adjacent residential fabric while celebrating the charm and history of Takoma Park.
